Randjesfontein · Midrand
The training heart of South African racing.
Home to up to 1,200 horses and some of the country's most successful training yards — the working engine of the South African racing industry.
The venue.
Where tomorrow’s winners are made.
Randjesfontein — the North Rand Training Centre — is the largest thoroughbred training facility in South Africa and the day-to-day home of many of the country’s leading racing yards. Set near Midrand in Gauteng, the centre can accommodate up to 1,200 horses in training and is where much of the preparation for meetings across the 4Racing calendar — at Turffontein, the Vaal and beyond — happens, long before a horse ever reaches the paddock on raceday.
Heritage
The home of Highveld training.
Randjesfontein has been at the heart of Highveld thoroughbred training for decades, developed under the long-standing stewardship of the Racing Association. Today it sits as a cornerstone of the 4Racing network: purpose-built gallops, an extensive complex of training yards, stabling for up to 1,200 horses, and the ecosystem of trainers, grooms, veterinary specialists and support services that make modern thoroughbred racing possible.

The morning gallops
The working day at Randjesfontein starts early. On the gallops, horses stretch their legs, work riders test form, and trainers read the signs that shape raceday entries.

Where horses live
A network of training yards, paddocks and stables across the estate — home to a substantial proportion of the country's active thoroughbred population.

Trainers, grooms, vets
Some of South Africa's most successful training yards operate from Randjesfontein, supported by the ecosystem of grooms, farriers, exercise riders and veterinary specialists who are the backbone of the sport.
Owners' access
Closer to your horse.
Ownership comes with access. Randjesfontein's training complex offers owners and partners the chance to see their horses work first-hand — early-morning gallops, stable visits, conversations with trainers, and a closer connection to the daily realities of preparing a racehorse for the track. Arrangements are made through individual yards or via our membership programme.
