Our accessibility commitment
4Racing is committed to making our website and digital platforms accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability, age or the technology they use to get online. We design, build and maintain the 4Racing site with accessibility as a core requirement, not an afterthought — because horse racing is for everyone, and the way we talk about it on the web should be too.
This statement sets out the accessibility standards we work to, the approach we take to meeting them, the limitations we are currently aware of, and how to reach us if you encounter a problem or need assistance.
Our current approach
Our target conformance level for the 4Racing website is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This is the international standard used by public-sector websites in South Africa and in most other jurisdictions, and it is built around the four guiding principles of accessible web content:
- Perceivable — content is presented in ways users can see, hear or otherwise access.
- Operable — the site can be used by anyone, including via keyboard alone.
- Understandable — content and interface behaviour is clear and predictable.
- Robust — the site works with current and future assistive technologies.
In practice, that means:
- All text on the site is sized to scale with the user’s browser and operating-system settings.
- Colour contrast between text and background is tested against the WCAG AA threshold.
- Every interactive element — links, buttons, navigation and form controls — is reachable and operable by keyboard alone.
- Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative images are marked as such to avoid noise for screen-reader users.
- The site is responsive and works across mobile, tablet, desktop and the large-screen viewports many of our users prefer for racecards and form.
- We do not rely on time-limited content that cannot be paused, interactive behaviour that requires a mouse, or fixed-size text that cannot be zoomed.
Where we embed third-party content — live video streams, betting integrations, social-media content — we select partners whose own platforms publish their accessibility posture, and we aim to surface their content in a way that preserves the accessibility of the rest of the page.
Known limitations
We review the site regularly, but it is a living platform and we do not claim it is perfect. At the time this statement was last updated, the following areas are the subject of ongoing work:
- Archive PDFs. Some older documents in our financial-reporting and legal archives may not yet meet WCAG AA. We are working through the back catalogue, and newer documents are produced to an accessible standard.
- Third-party integrations. Where we embed live content from partner platforms, the accessibility of that content is partly outside our control. We work with our partners to raise accessibility standards across their platforms.
- Live data components. Certain live-feed components, such as odds feeds and raceday cards, are updated by external data providers. We work to ensure these are announced correctly by assistive technologies, but we welcome feedback on specific issues.
If you encounter a specific accessibility barrier on the site, please let us know — your feedback is the quickest way to get a fix prioritised.
Requesting assistance or giving feedback
If you cannot access part of the site, need information in an alternative format, or would like to report an accessibility issue, please contact us. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within five working days, and to resolve or provide a workaround for critical accessibility barriers within twenty working days where we are reasonably able to do so.
